What are the factors that determine the hardness of a Chiba wheel?

The Chiba wheel, also known as the thousand-leaf wheel or chuck-type leaf wheel, is a type of coated abrasive tool. Each product is made by bonding hundreds or thousands of gauze pieces, hence the name. It uses alumina as the abrasive material and is made by laminating gauze made from cloth-based material through an assembly line, and then adhering it with full resin.

The Chiba wheel is suitable for surface rough polishing, grinding, rust removal, and grinding of large areas in various fields such as stainless steel, metal, and wood. It is highly efficient in polishing and shaping irregular surfaces, and effective in rust removal and grinding for various materials in mechanical manufacturing. It has a long service life.

The hardness of a Chiba wheel mainly depends on the amount of binder added and the density of the Chiba wheel. If the abrasive particles are prone to falling off, it indicates a low hardness; conversely, it indicates a high hardness.

The levels of hardness are generally divided into seven major categories: super soft, soft, medium soft, medium, medium hard, hard, and super hard. Within these categories, several subcategories can be further subdivided.

The commonly used methods for determining the hardness of Chiba wheels include the hand cone method, mechanical cone method, Rockwell hardness tester method, and sandblasting hardness tester method.

The hardness of the grinding wheel has a corresponding relationship with its dynamic elastic modulus, which facilitates the use of the audio frequency method to measure the dynamic elastic modulus of the grinding wheel to indicate the hardness of the grinding tool. In grinding processes, if the material hardness of the workpiece being ground is high, a grinding wheel with lower hardness is generally selected; conversely, a grinding wheel with higher hardness is chosen.

The Chiba wheel boasts high processing efficiency and convenient continuous operation, saving time compared to manual grinding and emerging as a top performer among grinding tools. Mastering the correct grinding method ensures a great user experience, and the grinding results are also outstanding!
